PRINTING A WORD DOCUMENT

When you have typed some text in your document, you can print it by clicking on the Print icon or by clicking on the File drop-down menu and choosing Print.  If you click on the Print icon, Word will print immediately but if you use the File menu you will be able to choose exactly what is printed, to which printer and how many copies.

When you have used the File menu and Print you will see the window below:

Choose the printer you want to print to from the selection box at the top of window - click on the arrow to the right of the box to see the printers available.  You can also set the number of copies and which pages to print.  Depending on your printer, clicking on the Properties button may bring up other features such as the paper tray to be used, whether the document is to be printed double-sided, and the quality of graphics.  The Options button can be used to include or exclude certain aspects of the document when it is printed, such as graphics.

You can enter a variety of expressions in the Pages box to select the parts of the document you want to print.  Here are some examples:

1-5

Print pages 1-5 inclusive

1-3,4-8

Print pages 1-3 inclusive and 4-8 inclusive

s2

Print section 2

s1-s3

Print section 1 through to the end of section 3

s1,s3

Print the whole of section 1 and the whole of section 3

p3s2-p5s2

Print pages 3-5 inclusive of section 2

p3s2-p4s3

Print page 3 of section 2 through to page 4 of section 3

If the Collate box is ticked, each copy of the document will be grouped together.  However, if you want all the page 1 copies together, then all the page 2 copies, etc, you should un-tick this box to turn off the collation.

When you are happy with your printer settings, click OK and your document will be printed.
