SETTING SAVE OPTIONS

When you have clicked on Tools -> Options to bring up the Options window and then clicked on the Save tab you will see the window below:

You can use this window to set the way in which Word saves files. You might want to set the Save options so that a backup copy is always created when you save a document. You can also set the default format in which Word files are saved, for instance you might want to save in an older version of Word if you share documents with other people who do not have your version of Office.

This window also contains a box for setting password protection on your document. You can set a password to open the document and additionally one to enable the reader to make changes. You can tick the box to make the document read-only if you want people to use a password to access your document but do not want them to change it.

To see how to set your options and an explanation of the effects they have, click on the appropriate tab at the top of this image.  eg if you want to see how to set the View options, click on View tab above.
