The PowerPoint Screen

There are various views that you can use in PowerPoint but when you first start PowerPoint you will usually be in Normal view.  In this view there are three panes displayed, the tall Outline Pane on the left, the Slide Pane displaying a sample slide at the top right and a smaller Notes Pane where you can make notes about each slide at the bottom.  You can adjust the size of these panes by dragging the grey boundary bars between them.

You may also see rulers above and to the side of your slide pane and there may be some dotted guide lines displayed across the slide.  If you want to display or turn off these features you can click on the View drop-down menu and choose Ruler  or Guides  to display or hide them (when there is a tick beside them on the View menu they are displayed).
