Speeding Up Data  Entry

If you have entered a large amount of data in a column and are entering the same values several times, Excel can help you speed up your data entry by suggesting values or providing a list you can select from.  If you start typing a value in a column and the start of it matches an existing value, Excel will automatically display the matching value.  If you want to use the suggested value press your Enter key, otherwise just carry on typing.  This facility is called ?Autocomplete ?.

To display a list from which you can choose values that have already been entered, click on the cell where you wa nt to enter the data and hold down your ALT key while pressing the down cursor arrow key .  Alternatively, you can click your right mouse button on the cells and choose the ?Pick from List? option from the menu that appears.

If you want to force people to only be able to choose certain values for a cell then you should use data validation.
